Looking for a solid meal that’ll fill you up but won’t break the bank? From salad-first lunches to nutritious swaps you can make, deceivingly filling lunch sets and healthy meals for gym rats, these are our go-tos.
While it’s true that Hong Kong is a foodie haven, it’s also an expensive one. So, if you’re trying to cut down on greasy fats and excessive sugar, but you’re also on a budget – where’s a girl to go? We’ve hit the streets (and gotten top tips from the rest of Team Sassy) and rounded up our favourite spots for healthy and affordable lunches and dinners in the city, perfect for a takeaway in the middle of a workday or a low-key date night that doesn’t make you feel too bloated afterwards.

Treehouse – Healthy salad bowls, wraps, burgers and soups in Central, Causeway Bay, Taikoo and Tsim Sha Tsui
Many a Team Sassy member has frequented a Treehouse branch, and for good reason! While it is a vegetarian restaurant, that doesn’t stop the meat lovers among us from gobbling down lunch here. Our favourite thing to do is create our own flatbread wrap (or salad bowl) with Signature Za’atar, four toppings chosen from a wide variety and with a generous serving of sauce. The regular size is only $82 (the large is $122) and it’s more than enough to fill us up for hours. We also appreciate that all of its dishes, right down to individual ingredients, come with nutritional and caloric info so you know exactly what you’re having.

Fete Up – Huge and healthy portions that don’t skimp on protein
Priding itself on using fresh ingredients, Fete Up is the delightful marriage of well-balanced meals that are both tasty and reasonably priced. You’ll find members of our Partnerships Team ducking into the Basehall location for a substantial meal, chosen due to its range of choices and hearty portions (the cutesy dish names don’t hurt either). You don’t have to worry about calculating your intake when every dish conveniently lists out the grams of carbs, protein and fats it has. Plus, you can build your own bowl for more flexibility and still know exactly how nutritious it is.

Hana-Musubi – ‘Omusubi’ rice ball and super affordable sets
If you’ve been in Hong Kong for a while, you’ve almost definitely come across one of these branches. But have you ever stopped to grab an Omusubi (made with high quality Japanese rice) or glance through the menu? Several locations offer a rice ball and soup for just $35, or two rice balls and soup for $45. It might not sound like much, but between the carbs and protein stuffing, it’s deceivingly filling! The next time you’ve missed breakfast and you’re in the MTR station about to commute to work, take a look around and pick up one of these sets to help you power through til lunch.

Nood Food – Unprocessed, additive-free food ranging salads, sandwiches, acai bowls, bagels, smoothies and more
Also known as ‘PURE food’ due to it often being attached to the popular gym, you’ll generally find members of our team popping into one of these cafes or juice bars during our lunch break for a quick grab-and-go option when we’re prioritising meals with nutritional value. We love that there’s something for everyone at nood food, whether you want something sweet like a Honey Banana Walnut Yoghurt, something light and vegetarian like a Grilled Portobello Tahini Sandwich or something heavier such as the Smoked Salmon & Cucumber Bagel. Its fridges are well-stocked with yummy juices, and you can’t really go wrong with its smoothies either – categorised depending on what you want to get out of it.

Gróa – Healthy restaurant inspired by Japanese flavours and Mediterranean freshness
With a constantly changing menu of sharing plates centring fresh ingredients, house-made dough and tasty flavours, gróa makes a trip to Repulse Bay well worth the visit. If you’re in a big group and don’t want fast food that’ll make you feel all greasy, this is the perfect spot. It has all sorts of innovative plates, like flatbreads with prosciutto, melon, feta and thyme, grain-based dishes, hearty salads and pastas bursting with umami goodness. Expect mains to range $100 to $190 for lunch and $110 to $290 for dinner (but remember, these are best when shared!).

Knead – Build your own affordable wraps, sandwiches and salad bowls
While Knead is probably most well-known for its top-notch catering services (it didn’t win our Sassy Reader Awards for nothing!), members of Team Sassy love popping into its Sheung Wan or Wan Chai location when we’re in knead of a delicious wrap that’s sure to satiate us. Its convenient nutrition table lists out the calories, carbs, protein and fat for all its ingredients so you can make informed choices. Sometimes the customising gets away from us and we end up with a toasted sourdough that costs $120 cause we’ve loaded it up with extras, but it’s very easy to keep under $100 and still walk away with a scrumptious, nourishing lunch.

Poke Love – Customise your poke bowl to make it healthier
If there’s one complaint we have about Poke Love, it’s that the regular size is the smallest and still too big! We often struggle to finish a whole bowl in one sitting, but it’s a struggle we seek out again and again. You’ll often find our whole team heading to one of these locations for lunch, it’s a great option because while Poke Love has a good selection of pre-made dishes, we can all make our own and design them to be as healthy (or not!) as we want — and keep the price tag between $90 and $110 with ease. Swap the sushi rice for a mixed salad or half-and-half if you want a lighter, carb-free meal, like some members of our Editorial team do!

Bánh Mi Nem – Michelin-recommended affordable bánh mi in Central and Wan Chai
Having retained its status in the Michelin guide in 2026, we know we’re not the only ones who love making a trip to Bánh Mi Nem when those lunchtime cravings hit. Its chunky sandwiches are always super filling, and if you opt to get a non-traditional one without the pate (and instead get a lean meat like chicken, or a tofu base) you can make it much healthier too. And did we mention you can typically get a whole bánh mi and a drink for under $100?

TamJai Yunnan Mixian – Healthy gym-friendly sets for lunch and dinner
One of Team Sassy’s resident pilates girls swears by TamJai, lauding its aptly named ‘gym set’ for being healthy and shockingly well priced. If you have it with Konjac noodles, chicken and fish and load it up with extra veggies, you can still dive into this incredibly satisfying meal for under $70! TamJai Yunnan Mixian has been delighting Hongkongers for over 20 years, but as it’s quite a local chain, many expats walk straight past it. This is your sign to check it out the next time you’re looking for a healthy – and maybe numbingly spicy – alternative to typical soup noodles.
