Despite this, the rise of quiet luxury and beauty trends has transformed care towards the most overlooked part of the body into a marker of status and luxury. From hand balms to cuticle oils worthy of a spot on your vanity, hand care deserves a place in the skincare ritual performed every night — and Team Sassy’s giving you the scoop on why, how to elevate your routine and the products you need!

The quiet status symbol

The care we devote to our hands touches on two deeply human impulses: ego and self-care. As Suzanne Santos, co-founder of Aesop, so poignantly puts it, “looking down and witnessing the passage of time on our hands is not always an easy view.”

The appearance of a hand has always been an aesthetic consideration. Many of us deliberate over nail length, shape and style, plus whether to go for gel nails or bare and which accessories to wear. But as beauty trends shift toward minimalism, so too has our perception of what makes hands look truly luxurious. Gone are the days of maximalist, 3D, hyperlong extensions. In their place lie groomed cuticles and softly buffed, polish-free nails that suggest effortlessness rather than excess.

Much like the wider obsession with quiet luxury, bare nails have become a subtle marker of prestige. They imply maintenance over decoration and care over spectacle. Such a cultural shift signals that beauty is becoming less about obvious display and more about understated upkeep. And in that evolution, hand care has emerged as the new status symbol.

But hand care is more than just about signalling quiet luxury or preserving a youthful appearance, it’s a moment rooted in self-care. More so than just warding off unwanted sun spots and uncomfortable dryness, it offers a small but meaningful act of self-love: a daily ritual of nourishment. According to Cupper, the key lies in “identifying genuine unmet needs,” whether that means boosting moisture levels, improving texture or finding a formula with the right consistency for your everyday use. Speaking about the newly launched Solais Replenishing Hand Serum, she explains, “We have taken the advanced science and ingredients ordinarily reserved for facial treatments — such as niacinamide, LHA and dandelion root — and applied that same intensity of care to the hands.”

These skincare-grade ingredients are precisely why hand care is beginning to mirror facial skincare. Ingredients such as Niacinamide to brighten and strengthen the skin barrier, LHA to gently exfoliate and Dandelion Root to offer antioxidant support not only complement facial care, but also to care for the hardest-working part of your skin (second to the feet!).

Beyond these ingredients, Team Sassy also loves ceramides to restore the skin barrier, shea butter for deep nourishment and peptides to support firmness and elasticity.
