Considered something of a dying art today, experienced tailors who have perfected the time-honoured attire with its distinctive mandarin collar, knotted buttons and side slit have become increasingly elusive. Linva Tailor – Movie star magic dresses

Established in 1965, Linva Tailor rose to fame after master Leung Ching-wah created Maggie Cheung’s cheongsam for Wong Kar-wai’s film, In the Mood for Love (2000). One of the city’s oldest bespoke cheongsam shops, Mee Wah Qipao was founded by the Kan family in the 1920s and has since been run by two generations so you’re in the presence of 100 years of expertise in crafting a legit qipao. As soon as you step inside you’ll be surrounded by roll upon roll of stunning fabrics embellished with prints, florals and minimalist dresses with delicate finishings. Each step of the journey (three to four days typically) from taking measurements and cutting fabrics is done by hand to customise the dress of your dreams.
