Here at Sassy, we support women’s rights and wrongs.

As a publication founded, built and powered by women, International Women’s Day is kind of a big deal around here. There’s nothing we love more than highlighting all things female, whether that means hyping up their achievements or backing causes that dare to shake things up.

Attaining representation is one thing — we love seeing women like Bar Mind founders Jo Lo and Birs Wong finding their place in male-dominated industries — but achieving full equality is still an upward battle. From constant antagonism on social media and being dismissed by healthcare providers to downright misogyny, there is no shortage of obstacles we face. Keep scrolling to read the full stories, plus unmissable IWD events, inspiring stories and women’s health tips.

A Grand Celebration Of Masterpieces

Under the expert baton of newly appointed Artistic Director Daniel Harding, the orchestra will deliver two evenings of spellbinding performances.

On Thursday, the concert begins with the dramatic the internationally acclaimed pianist Beatrice Rana‘s Hong Kong debut — she will dazzle the audience with Ravel’s vibrant “Piano Concerto in G.” Crowning the evening is “Overture to Les vêpres siciliennes” by Verdi, followed by Rachmaninov’s lush and soul-stirring “Symphony No. 2 in E minor, Op. 27.”

The following night, on 21 November, will showcase operatic grandeur with overtures from Rossini’s “William Tell” and Verdi’s “La forza del destino.” The evening reaches its apex with Act I of Wagner’s “Die Walküre,” brought to life by an exceptional cast of Wagnerian vocalists: soprano Miina-Liisa Värelä, 2025 Oper! Award “Best Male Singer” tenor Klaus Florian Vogt and Ho-AM Prize in the Arts winner bass Kwangchul Youn.
